For most people that I have coached, the experience of Life Coaching is a first in their lives. It is but natural then that there are numerous questions people have about coaching. I’ve attempted to answer some of them here:

What exactly happens during Life Coaching sessions?
Here’s what happens. After having completely understood what your challenges and goals are, we start addressing the thinking patterns you have developed over time which make you feel stuck or where you lose power. Our coaching conversations will be all about helping you see what you yourself are blind to. When you start seeing yourself through a Coach’s eyes, you start noticing what is REALLY dis-empowering you.

With every session you make progress in terms of seeing your world (and yourself) in a new light. That itself opens up new possibilities which didn’t exist earlier. It’s like you’re stuck in a prison cell and new doors emerge simply by changing the glasses you’re wearing on your eyes.

Will Life Coaching work for me?
It will work for you provided
a) you are serious and committed about making lasting change in your life
b) you are open to new ways of thinking
c) you are willing to take responsibility for all that has happened in your life in the past and all that will happen in your life in the future.

Will the change last? What are the chances that I will go back to being my old self after coaching?
Coaching is not about some superficial tips and tricks for a better life. Coaching addresses the core of who you are and how you have become who you have become. It’s about making fundamental changes in how you see things.

It is normal for people to go back to old ways of behaviour from time to time even after coaching. However if you consistently apply what you have discovered in your coaching sessions (about yourself and your life), you will not only bounce back from powerless situations faster, you will move faster to becoming a person who is significantly different from who you once were.

Life coaching has the potential to transform your perspectives towards life permanently. It’s like learning to ride a bicycle. When you start riding a bicycle without falling down, that learning becomes permanent.. you can never ‘unlearn’ how to bicycle.

Does Telephonic Coaching really work?
Since 2015 I have done ONLY Telephonic coaching. It works as effectively and sometimes more effectively than in person sessions (simply because the typical distractions one has when one meets a person don’t exist). All the 60+ testimonials in the Success Stories section of this site are by clients who were coached by me completely on the phone.

Do I really have to hire a Life Coach? Can’t I just deal with my challenges on my own?
No you don’t HAVE TO hire a Life Coach. People who hired me over the years are people who have tried dealing with life’s challenges on their own but eventually made little or no progress. A good reason to hire a Life Coach is if you want to save yourself months or years of further frustration and suffering (that could possibly come if you keep trying to solve your problems in the same old ways and keep getting the same old results).

How safe is it to share my life’s details with you? Aren’t you after all a stranger on the other end of the line?
It is said, strangers are friends we haven’t yet met. It is better to take support  from a stranger who is TRAINED to be non-judgmental, neutral and objective and is FORBIDDEN from ‘fixing’ you, than with a close friend or spouse who is likely to have a fixed view of you and what you ought to do with your life.

Your confidentiality is guaranteed. I have a printed AGREEMENT with all my clients to that effect. I am an internationally certified Life Coach and there is a code of ethics that I follow being part of this fraternity.

Multiple times over the last few years I have had clients refer me to their family members and friends. I see that as their trust in my commitment to keep their own life details confidential. Several times in the past, I have coached husband-wife, father-son, sibling-sibling, colleague-colleague combinations concurrently, where X doesn’t know what I’m coaching Y on and vice versa.

I don’t know of anybody in my life who has ever used life coaching. Won’t it be a risk to try such a service without any positive review from someone I personally know?
Life coaching is very new to India. I entered the industry in 2012 and it’s only in the last 3 years that awareness about life coaching has dramatically increased. Even now more than 99% of people are unaware of what life coaching really is and how it can help people. The probability of you bumping into someone who’s had a heart surgery are way higher than the probability of you meeting someone who has or had a life coach!

Yes, hiring a life coach, like hiring any new service without any positive referral from someone you know IS A RISK. Because the industry is growing, it’s getting flooded with hundreds of people claiming to be coaches. Your best bet is to hire a life coach who’s trained, certified and highly experienced. In my case, I have the testimonials my clients have given me and the coverage the media routinely gives me, to show.

I’m keen to get coached but I feel I’m not ready for it yet.
Let’s face it. You’ll never be truly ‘ready’ for something. I hear this all the time in my coaching conversations with clients. “I want to but I’m not ‘ready’ to start a business, I’m not ‘ready’ to switch careers, I’m not ‘ready’ to start a new relationship..” and so on.

BEING READY is simply a conversation in the mind. There is no actual state called ‘I am ready.’ You are ready whenever you say you are ready.
